Pop-up Production Profile: Millenium Printing
We just got back from China where we were overseeing the production of some of our latest titles. (Be sure to check the sneak peek area for a look at one of the upcoming creations from Robert and Matthew.) Many people have asked what it is like in China and this gives us a chance to share with you one of our favorite partners in creating our pop-up books – Millenium. They are one of the best in the business, so if you have a movable masterpiece then contact them at info@mll.com.cn
A short ride from Hong Kong, we come to the entrance of Guangzhou Millenium Litho Ltd.
The receptionist at the main office shares space with a shrine in one of the more peaceful settings in this sprawling complex.
Here is the nerve center of the operation. Almost all the major departments share this space and we notice that the office (and entire plant) is so much cleaner than our messy studio!
Here is a rare glimpse of Samuel Chung. With thousands of workers and millions of products he is one busy man!
Here you can see some of the titles that Millenium has created over the years. We were drooling over all the fantastic foreign edition titles.
On the ground floor are the massive printing presses that are the size of a school bus and run 24 hours a day!
Millenium has one of the best diemaking departments around. Here’s a close up of a very complex die mold in the works. It sure beats scissors when you have to cut out a million pieces!
No machine is fast enough or smart enough to fold and assemble the pop-ups, so we rely on the expertise of Millenium’s assembly lines.
But we rely most of all on all the wonderful people in Customer Service. Without their help and guidance we couldn’t make all our fun books. Thank you Millenium!
