Book Artist Spotlight: Cheong-ah Hwang

We met Cheong-ah Hwang in Chicago at the Movable Book Society. She is a paper artist who traveled from Ohio to show us some wonderful large wall-mounted pop-ups she created for her son's nursery. Here are a few images from the jungle scene that she designed. You can find out more about Cheong-ah and discover other playful, paper animal friends at: www.papernoodle.com.

Here is a gravity-defying example of paper sculpture that was the inspiration for her website moniker.

Eight separate pop-ups are hidden in this large interactive wall mural. You can get a sense of scale of these massive pop-ups thanks to her lovely little assistant.

What lurks behind the tricolor starburst bush?

A lion cocking his head and roaring hello!

What starts off as a bunch of bananas…

Turns into a gorilla clinging to his favorite food!

What can pop up from this fan folded palm frond?

A colorful parrot spreads its wings and takes flight!

Here is our talented artist giving up a sneak peek of an instructional handbook that she is currently developing. Let's hope it turns out well and we will look forward to seeing more great things from Cheong-ah Hwang!
