It's Alive!
Matthew Reinhart and legendary children's book creator Maurice Sendak are currently collaborating on a pop-up book. The book is based on one of Maurice Sendak's plays "It's Alive!" Matthew and Maurice previously collaborated on a movable with the cover of the exhibit catalog for the pop-up exhibit "Brooklyn Pops Up!"

| "It's Alive! (although the title may be changed for the final book)" tells the story, through the use of only two words, of a baby lost in a mad scientist's laboratory.
The baby cleverly outwits the monsters residing in the laboratory at every turn!

| Maurice Sendak's artwork is absolutely delightful in the practically wordless story that seems to be right out of the 1930's!
After sketching, the final artwork is created using pencil and watercolor which always has that special Sendak touch.
Since this is, after all, a pop-up book the artwork is being created in pieces in order to accommodate the mechanisms created by Matthew Reinhart.

The mad scientist looks like he falling to pieces but each piece has been carefully planned to ensure a finished pop-up.

No pop-up book is complete without backgrounds and this one is no exception. Only Maurice Sendak could create such and amazing (yet, hilarious!) world!

| We'll keep you updated on this project and next time hope to include some of the pop-up from what we are sure will be a classic movable book!
